Imperfect Yoga

Beth Jervis

200HR YTT - Ashtanga Vinyasa (Alpha Yoga School)

100 YTT - Yin & Yin Resonance (Shri Gaïa Institute)

Like many Westerners in their 3O's, I discovered yoga becuse I injured myself and thought it might be a good idea. I got hooked. With hiking, running, stress, a lot of ambition and 'achievement' in my life, I was also in a state of mental and physical "stiffness" that was catching up with me. Yoga is a whole system, a practice rather than a 'sport' because the focus is not on the results but on being present and connecting to the body you are in and your mind. For some it's a very spiritual practice, but it doesn't have to be. I'm a total yoga geek, I'm interested in the physical practice, the philosophy and the science of it, and I try to weave all that into what I do so you can figure out which parts of it you like the most!

The idea of imperfect yoga is to explore all yoga has to offer in a friendly environment with fun and accessible classes, and sometimes to get creative with it! Yoga is very trendy these days, but back in the day in India yogis were mostly seen as wierdoes (no really)! I like people to feel like they are at home in my physical classes, and can be as wierd and outgoing or as reserved and as timid as they like. You can also be stiff as a board, noodle-like, super-fit or super unfit. The promise of yoga is that everyone will find their personal challenge. I don't think it ever disappoints on that front! I like to keep groups small and classes on the longer side so that we have time for a proper warm up, a bit of breathing, a proper relaxation, and  I can give you personal guidance and offer you adjustments along the way.

I also love to run seperate breathwork sessions and philosophy sessions because there's a lot more to yoga than just the physical if you want there to be, and what we can learn or infer from contemplating yogic approaches can be applied. It can be used to transform our lives, to boost teams, to change mindsets, and create new visions for the future.

Imperfect = I'm perfect, right here, just as I am; and so are you!

My other great passion in life is hiking! I've crossed the French, Italian and parts of the Swiss Alps, all the Pyrennees twice, Corsica, Reunion island, and been on numerous other hiking adventures with my backpack. These days, I share my adventure time between hiking & yoga!

What else can I say?

Well... apart from being a yoga teacher, I'm also an actress who writes her own plays, a translator author and voice for the meditation apps

'Petit Bambou' and 'Zafoo' and an English coach helping French people prep pitches and presentations in English for their jobs.

Is Imperfect Yoga for me?

Imperfect Yoga is for you if:

  • You are new to Yoga and want to try an accessible style class in a fun and friendly setting.

  • You think yoga might be good for you but you are intimidated or put off by the way it looks, or the things you think you are supposed to eat, or the very spiritual stuff.

  • You like the idea of Yoga + fun! (Quirky classes, optional brunch or afterwork add-ons...)

  • You would like to try a more challenging / physical form of yoga. (In this case come to an Ashtanga intro workshop!)

  • You are feeling out of shape and you want to gently get back into some physical practice with a teacher who can give you some guidance on proper alignment and who will take care to sequence classes in a safe and accessible way.

  • Your other half has signed up to a yoga brunch thingy and they really want you to come along. (You will not be the first or the last person in this situation... and you will be right at home with imperfect yogis, don't worry, some of us even drink beer!)

  • You love yoga. (So do I...)
